Buy seeds and bulbs If you haven’t already, there’s still a bit of time for you to order or go to the local gardening department and get your hands on some summer-flowering bulbs and seeds. Lilies, Gladioulus and Ranunculus are ideal choices as they can be planted early spring and they flower in the summer in gorgeous rich colours. It’s a great past time on a cloudy rainy day and a perfect excuse to go shopping! Get rid of all the leaves and other debris from your flower borders, planters , the lawn or pounds. Cut back any dead plants or grass to make room for new life to spring. It’s also a good time, as the soil is no longer frozen, to dig a 5 cm layer and “feed” the soil with organic matter. You can use well-rotted manure, compost or recycled green waste. Another eco-friendly and nutritious way to care for your plants is to install water butts in the garden to collect rain water. Plants like Camelias, Rhododendrons and Blueberries just love it! It’s better to identify and get rid of them now, if you haven’t already done so during the winter, before the warm weather comes and they become a lot of trouble. Do some general handiwork, fix any gates or fences, clean all your gardening tools and tidy up everything now so you have more time to you enjoy your garden when the sun comes to stay. Rattan Garden Furniture Also, let’s not forget about the pièce de résistance, the garden furniture! It’s a good time to have a look in your storage and check the status of garden furniture set. Some sets, like rattan furniture sets are easy maintenance so shouldn’t give you too much trouble. Rattan furniture usually needs just a bit of dusting or a quick wash with plain water to get rid of any debris and make it look brand new again. If you’re garden furniture is looking a bit old and worse for wear, you might want to consider purchasing a new one. It’s the perfect time to do that now, before the season kicks off.
