How to protect your furniture over the winter

We’ve enjoyed quite a few warm and sunny autumn days but unfortunately this is now beginning to change and the chilly winter is slowly claiming its rights. It’s time to make our houses warm and cosy, start planning our winter holiday and start thinking about Christmas lists and presents. However, we shouldn't forget about our gardens and patios that have made our summers so enjoyable!

The beauty of the synthetic rattan garden furniture set is that it requires minimal maintenance compared to other types of garden furniture. Our Rattan Garden Furniture Sets are made out of PE Rattan which means you can leave them outside over the cold winter months without having to worry about them. However, we do generally recommend using a garden furniture cover to protect your rattan garden furniture sets during winter time. The advantages of using a cover is that you can neatly store away the set in your shed or garage and not worry about it getting dirty or dusty during the winter. We usually recommend this as it means it is less hassle for you to clean your rattan sofa set or rattan dining set when spring comes.

You can rest assured that your outdoor rattan furniture will survive the winter with no problems due to the high quality materials we use and the attention and care we put into manufacturing each set.

How to store Cushions and Accessories

Cushions and accessories usually require a bit more care and attention. Whilst most of the cushion covers for rattan sofa sets or rattan dining sets are shower-proof (including ours!) we do recommend storing them in a dry place when they are not in use. Although the cushion covers will help disperse water, exposure to low temperatures and heavy rain over long periods of time can have an impact on your cushions, especially on the stuffing.

How to prepare your garden for winter

Make sure your outdoor rattan furniture is in good condition before storing it away. The same goes for accessories – check if they need a bit of cleaning or dusting. Don’t forget about garden equipment! It may need cleaning (remember to dry them out thoroughly to prevent rust) or even sharpening. Also, the end of autumn is the best time to check the state of your fences and gate(s) and fix anything that needs fixing before winter comes! Don’t forget about your plants either, autumn is the best time to see what improvements your garden needs to be in tip-top shape for spring. We recommend researching on-line or in speciality magazines as they will have speciality articles during this time of year and you can pick and choose the ones that are best for your garden and easiest for you. Here are a few things to think about:

- Take a look at your lawn and if it needs a bit of regenerating, now’s the best time to do it. - Dead plants and shrubs should be removed and instead you can plant evergreen plants to revive your garden.

- Some plants may need protecting from frost and some may need to be replanted in pots and containers and moved indoors or in a warmer place.
